William Gaston is elected mayor of Boston.

Gaston (D and Citizens Party), with 10,836 votes, defeats George Carpenter, with 7,836, to win the first of two consecutive terms as mayor. He lives at 23 Linden Park. Gaston is inaugurated on January 2, 1871.
