Whidden (Stephen H.) House is built.

Designed in the French Second Empire style, it is located at 39 Princeton Street. The brick rowhouse is built by and for an East Boston ship builder. Whidden lives here until his death in 1892. The area is subsequently declared a Boston landmark.
