Washingtonian Society Boston Chapter is established.

Founded in Baltimore on May 4, 1840, the organization advocates total abstinence from liquor. It opens the Washingtonian Home for Inebriates in 1857,* later moves to 41 Waltham Street, then to Forest Hills. The institution closes in 1981.
