Washington (George) statue is dedicated.

Artist: Thomas Ball. It is located in the Boston Public Garden. One of the first equestrian statues erected in the U.S., it was funded by public subscription. The model for the horse is “Black Prince,” which is owned by Col. Bigelow Lawrence and was ridden by Lord Renfrew, then Prince of Wales and later Edward VII, when he visited Boston in 1860.*
