Van Morrison Controversy performs at the Catacombs.
August 9, 1968
Morrison, back by a group of local musicians, performs for the first of two consecutive nights at The Catacombs, a sub-basement club at 1120 Boylston Street. Backed by drummer Joey Bebo, bassist Tom Kielbania, and flautist John Payne, Morrison performs the acoustic songs that would appear on his Astral Weeks. A demo is recorded at Ace Recording Studio in Boston September 1968 and the album is recorded in New York City in November 1968.
