Tucker (Sophie) is born in Ukraine.

Sophie Tucker emigrates with her family to Boston in approximately 1890 and lives initially at 22 Salem Street. The family subsequently move to Hartford, Connecticut, where Tucker begins her career as a teenager, singing in her father’s restaurant. One of the most popular entertainers of her time, Tucker later reflects, “I have been poor and I have been rich. Rich is better.” She dies in New York City on February 9, 1966.
