Trotter (William Monroe) School opens.
September 3, 1969
Architect: Drummey, Roseanne & Anderson. Originally the Humboldt Avenue School, it is located at 135 Humboldt Avenue. Subsequently named for the Boston civil rights leader and newspaper publisher, it is the first city-wide “magnet” school in Boston and second in the U.S. built to encourage integration with half of its 740 seats targeted for white students. Graduates include pop singers Jonathan and Jordan Knight, Danny and Donnie Wahlberg, and Danny Wood. The school is named one of 10 “underperforming” schools by the state in 2010, but achieves a Level 1 rating, the highest ranking, in September 2013.
