Tregor v. Board of Assessors of Boston decision finds the city guilty of property tax over-assessments.

March 23, 1979

Supreme Judicial Court finds orders the city to refund $143 million to plaintiff Norman Tregor and others who were overcharged on their property taxes. When the city cannot afford to pay the settlement, the state assumes the responsibility for the payment under the terms of the so-called Tregor Bill, which is passed by the state legislature in 1982.*
