Tobin (Maurice J.) is born in Boston.

The son of Irish immigrants from Tipperary, Maurice Tobin grows up on Mission Hill, graduates from the High School of Commerce and Boston College, works initially for the New England Telephone Company, and subsequently lives at 30 Hopkins Road. He serves in the Massachusetts House of Representatives (1926-37), on the Boston School Committee (1936-37), as mayor of Boston (1938-45), governor of Massachusetts (1945-47) and U.S. Secretary of Labor (1948-53). Tobin dies in Scituate on July 19, 1953, and is buried in Holyhood Cemetery in Brookline.
