Tet Offensive is launched in South Vietnam.

Communist forces engage in surprise attacks on the city of Tet and various other South Vietnamese provincial capitals. Although militarily unsuccessful, the attacks provide enormous propaganda value, since they call into question the ability of the U.S. to effectively support the South Vietnamese government.
