Tenants Development Corporation is established.

Founded by Mel King, Mary Longley, Ted Parrish and others, it is an outgrowth of the newly-formed South End Tenants Council. The first tenants group in the U.S. to purchase its residential buildings with the aid of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, it goes on to develop and manage some 185 units in 36 buildings in the South End. The organization is currently located at 566 Massachusetts Avenue.
