Ten Point Coalition is established.

May 16, 1992

It is founded by Rev. John Borders and other African-American ministers two days after violence breaks out at a funeral at Borders’ Morningstar Baptist Church and subsequently located at 2010 Columbus Avenue. Rev. Mickarl Thomas is the group’s first president. The organization takes it name from a subsequent report, “A Ten-Point Proposal for Citywide Church Mobilization To Combat The Material and Spiritual Sources of Black-on-Black Violence,” which calls for increased church and community involvement, an improved partnership with police, and additional services for at-risk youth.
