Supreme Court rejects workplace discrimination toward gay and transgender people.

In three cases, the court, by a vote of 6-3, extends workplace protections to people regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identification. While a 1989 state law already offered such protections in Massachusetts, the Supreme Court ruling prevents a situation where gay couples who move to another state, according to Arline Isaacson, cochair woman of the Massachusetts Gay and Lesbian Political Caucus, “They could be married on Sunday and fired on Monday.”
