St. Vincent’s Orphan Asylum for Girls is established.

It is located at the corner of Shawmut Avenue and Camden Street (1858). Operated by the sisters of Charity and supported by philanthropist Andrew Carney, the orphanage subsequently moves to Cambridge. It closes in 1949.
