The plan is overwhelmingly approved at a meeting of more than 1,000 people at the Charles Mackey Middle School. The plans calls for demolishing 5,215 units and 298 non-residential buildings, building 500 units of public housing for elderly and 300 units for families, and 2,500 new moderate rental units, and rehabbing 20,000 units.
