South End Grounds (third) opens.
July 20, 1894
Smaller and less ornate than its predecessor, it is located on the site of its predecessor near today’s Ruggles MBTA station on today’s St. Cyprian’s Place (then Walpole Street). The stadium is the home of the Boston Braves (then the Beaneaters). The team moves to a new stadium on Commonwealth Avenue in 1915.* The stands are demolished and the field is used by high school and amateur teams until the 1920s.
