Smith (Jerome V.C.) is born in Conway, New Hampshire.
July 20, 1800
The son of a Dr. Richard and Sarah (Cummings) Smith, Jerome V.C. Smith graduates from Brown University and Williams College Medical School, marries Eliza Maria Brown, and moves to Boston in approximately 1824, and lives at the Tremont House near today’s 73 Tremont Street (12 Bowdoin Street). A founder of the Boston Medical Intelligencer, he is named Boston port physician in 1826, and lives for a time on an island in Boston Harbor. Smith serves on the Boston School Committee, in the Massachusetts House of Representatives, and as mayor of Boston (1854-55). He dies on August 21, 1879.
