Shiyeon Sung is named assistant conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

The first woman assistant conductor of the BSO, she serves in the position until 2009. She subsequently becomes artistic director and chief conductor of the Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra in South Korea.
