Shawmut Congregational Church is dedicated.

Architect: J.D. Towle, J.D. [Parker, Charles Edward-Lopez] (2/11/1864-Lopez) Designed in the Romanesque style, the church is located at 640 Tremont Street. The congregation was established at the Suffolk Street Union Church on Shawmut Avenue on November 20, 1845 and met in a chapel until the new church is built. The congregation dissolves in 1892. Subsequently used by other congregations, the building is damaged by fire in 1978. It is converted to residential use in 1991.*
