Shattuck (Lemuel) is born in Ashby.
October 10, 1793
Lemuel Shattuck becomes a school teacher, then a store keeper, and serves on the Concord school Committee. He arrives in Boston in approximately 1836 and becomes a successful publisher and bookseller, serves on the Boston Common Council (1837-41) and in the Massachusetts legislature. He becomes involved in genealogy, statistics, development of the census and public health, and publishes a landmark report promoting improvements in public health in 1850.* Shattuck dies in Boston on January 17, 1859.
