Scollay Square is created.
May 18, 1871
After purchasing the properties a year earlier, the city demolishes Scollay’s Buildings to produce the triangular space that had long been known as Scollay Square. The remaining buildings in the area are torn down to make way for the urban renewal area called Government Center in 1963. However, the area is ceremonially re-dedicated as Scollay Square on April 29, 1987.
