Scarry (Richard) is born in Dorchester.

June 5, 1919

The son of John and Mary (McClure) Scarry, Richard Scarry grows up at 28 Melville Avenue [32-DHS], attends the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, and goes on to become an extremely popular writer and illustrator of more than 300 children’s books, including the Best Ever series. He dies in Gstaad, Switzerland, on April 30, 1994.
