Santos (Gil) is born in Acushnet.

Born in Acushnet on April 19, 1938, Gil Santos serves in the U.S. Army Reserves in Germany, graduates from the New England School of Broadcasting, and works initially at radio stations in New Bedford. He comes to Boston in 1966 to serve play-by-play announcer for the New England Patriots (then Boston Patriots) on WBZ Radio, also becomes the station’s sports anchor and the announcer for Boston Celtics and Providence College basketball. Santos retires from WBZ in 2009 and calls his last game for the Patriots on January 20, 2013. He dies in Raynham on April 19, 2018.
