Sailors’ Home (fourth) is built.
1872
Built by the Boston Seaman’s Friend Society and the Salem and Mariners’ Church, it is located at 39 North Bennet Street. When the church is dissolved in 1878, the lodging house is closed and the organization becomes independent from the American Seaman’s Aid Society. It moves to a rented hall at 175 Hanover Street in 1880. The building becomes the home of the North Bennet Street School in 1885.* It becomes the middle school for the John Eliot School in 2014.
