Roxbury Latin School receives a donation of land from Thomas Bell.

1672

Bell donates 151 acres, 47 acres of which extend from today’s Walk Hill Street to the Arborway about present-day Arborway for the maintenance of the schoolmaster for teaching and instructing poor men’s children. Charles Ellis later calls Bell, “A generous man and one of a liberal mind. He is the Harvard of our Free School.”
