Roseland-State Ballroom opens.

Operated by Charlie and Cy (Simon) Shribman, it is located at 217 Massachusetts Avenue. It combines the former Roseland at 15 Burbank Street with the larger State Ballroom into one large club with a capacity of 2,700. Performers include Count Basie, Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday and Artie Shaw. Under new management, it is renamed the New State Ballroom in 1958 and features Irish music. It closes on January 26, 1968 (28).
