Ron Hill of England (2:10:30) and Sara Mae Berman (3:05:07) are the winners of the Boston Marathon.

Gene Roberts becomes the first wheelchair competitor in the race and the first to compete in any marathon. Roberts is allowed to compete unofficially. The Boston Marathon establishes an official wheelchair division in 1977.
