Residents meet to discuss a proposal to establish the new town of Hyde Park.
October 14, 1867
Held at the Music Hall, the meeting is attended by residents from the “several villages” of Hyde Park (Dorchester), Fairmount (Milton), Mattapan (Dorchester), and Readville and Mill Village (Dedham). A second meeting is held on October 22, 1867. Residents subsequently petition the General Court for permission to incorporate as a separate town.
