Remond (Sarah) is born in Salem.

The daughter of John and Nancy Remond, Sarah Remond grows up in Salem, and after a successful campaign led by her father, is able to attend and graduate from Salem High School. Sarah successfully sues a Boston theater for practicing segregation in 1853,* becomes an abolitionist speaker in the U.S. and England in 1856, and campaigns for the right to vote for women and African-Americans after the Civil War. She moves to Italy in 1866, becomes a doctor, and dies in Florence in 1894.
