Redstone (Sumner) is born in Boston.

The son of a nightclub owner, Sumner Redstone grows up in the West End and Brighton, graduates from Boston Latin School, Harvard College, and Harvard Law School, and serves in a military intelligence unit in World War II. He practices law, teaches at Boston University Law School, moves to Washington D.C. briefly, then returns to the Boston area in 1955 to run his father’s movie theater company, National Amusements. Redstone subsequently moves to California, becomes chief executive of Viacom then Paramount and one of the most influential figures in the U.S. entertainment industry. He dies in Los Angeles on August 11, 2020.
