In what Stephen Kinzer later calls, “the first anti–imperialist rally in American history,” hundreds of people attend a meeting at Faneuil Hall to a bill in in Congress to allow the annexation of Hawaii. The meeting leads to the establishment of the Anti-Imperialist League in November 1898.*
