Quincy is first settled by Europeans.
June 30, 1625
(Summer) Originally Passangesset, then Mount Wollaston, and part of today’s Braintree, the area is settled by a party led by Capt. Richard Wollaston. He and most of the rest of the party soon sail for Virginia, leaving a Lt. Fitcher in charge. Fitcher is soon ousted by Thomas Morton, who renames the settlement Ma-re-mount and is arrested for his questionable conduct and activities in 1628.* Quincy is incorporated as a town in 1626, separates from Braintree in 1792, and is incorporated as a city in 1836.
