Quabbin Reservoir is filled to capacity in Central Massachusetts.

The reservoir is constructed by taking the former towns of Dana, Enfield, Greenwich, and Prescott by eminent domain and damming the Swift River in Western Massachusetts. Boston’s new source of water, it has a capacity of 412 billion gallons, it becomes the largest reservoir in the world at the time devoted exclusively to the supply of water. Construction began in 1927, and the reservoir began to fill on August 14, 1939. After filling, the water flows through the Winsor Dam Spillway 65 miles east to Boston.
