Polar Star is first published.

October 6, 1796

It is printed by Alexander Martin from a shop at the corner of Water Street and Quaker Lane and then from 71 State Street “opposite the Custom House.” The first newspaper to attempt to print a daily issue, it changes its name to the Boston Daily Advertiser before ceasing publication after only four months. The last known issue appears on February 2, 1797.
