Pierce’s Alley is laid out.

The seven-foot wide alley runs between State Street and Faneuil Hall Square. It comes to be known as “Damnation Alley” because so many heated arguments between teamsters occur here. After an ordinance passes this year requiring, “when drivers shall meet in these narrow streets, they shall flip a coin to see which shall back out,” it becomes known as Change Avenue.
