Pierce-Hichborn House is built.

1711

(ca.) Designed in the Georgian style and built for glazier Moses Pierce, it is located at today’s 29 North Square. The oldest brick house in today’s Boston, it is purchased by Nathaniel Hichborn, a cousin of Paul Revere, in 1781, and remains in the Hichborn family until 1864. A police raid on an illegal gambling operation there in 1948 sparks a successful effort to preserve the building. It is restored by Charles Strickland in 1949 and purchased by the Paul Revere Memorial Association in 1970.
