Peters (Andrew J.) is born in Jamaica Plain.
April 3, 1872
The son of Andrew and Mary (Whitney) Peters, Andrew Peters graduates from Harvard College and Harvard Law School, marries Martha Phillips in 1910, and lives on his family’s estate at 310 South Street [Asticou Road]. A Yankee Democrat, Peters serves in the Massachusetts House of Representatives (1902) and Senate (1904-05), in the U.S. House of Representatives (1911-12) and as mayor of Boston (1918-22), the first Jamaica Plain resident to hold the office. He serves as president of the Boston Chamber of Commerce (1926-28), becomes involved in a personal scandal in 1930,* dies in Boston on June 26, 1938, and is buried in Forest Hills Cemetery.
