Perkins School for the Blind (second) opens.

(May) The school moves to the former Mount Washington House Hotel at today’s 535 East Broadway. Directed by Samuel Gridley, the institution opens a workshop for blind adults in 1837, and a wing for children with developmental disabilities in 1846 that becomes the Fernald School in 1848.* The Perkins School for the Blind moves to Watertown in 1912.
