Paulette Brown is elected president of the American Bar Association.

The first African-American woman elected president of the American Bar Association, she is a native of Baltimore, Maryland, Brown is a graduate of Howard University and Seton Hall Law School and a partner in the Boston law firm of Edwards Wildman Palmer LLP. The organization did not allow African-American members until 1943.
