Panera Cares Community Café opens.

It is located at 3 Center Plaza. It is one of five such cafés operated by the Panera Cares Foundation, the charitable arm of the Panera Bread Company restaurant chain, in which customers who can afford to are encouraged to play slightly higher prices and those who are poor are asked to pay what they can. Company founder Ron Shaich declares, “It’s a powerful study of humanity. Will people do the right thing?” The last of the five such restaurants, the Boston Panera Cares closes due to poor sales on February 15, 2019.
