Paine (Robert Treat Jr.) is born in Boston.

Robert Treat Paine Jr. graduates from Boston Latin School and Harvard College, where he was poet laureate, works briefly in business, founds a newspaper in 1774,* and gets involved in the Boston theater. He marries actress Elizabeth Baker in 1797, continues to write political poetry, studies then practices law, and dies in poverty in Boston on November 14, 1811. Edward Everett later writes, “Paine was a luckless man, but, oh! what a bard!”
