Orr (Bobby) is born in Parry Sound, Ontario.
March 20, 1948
Bobby Orr is signed by the Boston Bruins at age 14, and called up from the minor leagues in 1966.* He goes on to become one of the greatest players in National Hockey League history, winning three Hart Trophies and eight Norris trophies, and becomes the only defenseman ever to lead the league in scoring twice. One of the most loved, respected, and considerate athletes in Boston history, Orr leads the team to its first Stanley Cup championship in almost three decades in 1970.* A knee injury forces him to miss most of the 1975 season, and his agent persuades him to sign with the Chicago Blackhawks in 1976. He plays just 26 games for that team due to injuries and retires in in 1978.
