Oriental Tea Company opens.

Operated by Frank Allen, the coffee and tea house is located at today’s 63 – 65 Court Street (then 85 – 89 Court Street). Allen subsequently contracts with coppersmith Hicks & Badger to construct a 200-pound teapot, which emits steam from the spout, that is installed in August 1873. The teapot is used for a popular promotion in 1875.*
