O’Neill (Thomas P. “Tip”) Tunnel opens.

Part of the Big dig project, the tunnel runs from Kneeland Street to Causeway Street, where it connects Route I-93 to the Leonard Zakim-Bunker Hill Bridge. Initially open for northbound traffic, it opens for southbound traffic on December 20, 2003. It is dedicated and named for the former Congressman and Speaker of the House of Representatives on June 5, 2006.
