New York Streets residents receive eviction notices.
January 25, 1952
Sent out by the Boston Housing Authority, the notices to leave the proposed urban renewal area are effective February 25, 1952. Most of the residents leave in April and May. Demolition begins in 1955 and is completed in September 1957, when Mayor John Hynes proclaims the project “The beginning of the New Boston.” The first new building is not completed until 1959.*
