New England Suffrage League is established.
October 31, 1903
(Fall) Originally the Boston Suffrage League, it is founded by William Monroe Trotter, Archibald Grimke, and others after a series of meetings in Trotter’s home. The Boston chapter is considered more radical than others, promoting a “race first” approach, rather than automatic loyalty to the Republican Party. The organization evolves into the National Independent Political League and then the National Equal Rights League.
