National Theatre (first) opens.
August 15, 1836
Architect: William Washburn. It is located on the former site of the Warren Theatre and American Amphitheatre at the corner of Traverse Street and Portland Street. The building is destroyed by a fire on April 22, 1852, and replaced by a new building (second) on Portland Street in 1852.*
