The ceremony takes place outside the office of today’s chief justice at John Adams Court House – after a two-month effort to identify the portrait. On the 100th anniversary of his appointment as chief justice of the Supreme Judicial Court in 1830, Frederick Chase of the Boston Bar Association declared, “No one has done more to help us keep our faith in the living force and beauty of the common law.”
