Museum of Science, Boston (first) opens.

June 1, 1864

Architect: William Preston. Originally the Museum of Natural History, it is designed in the French Academic style and located at 234 Berkeley Street. Bradford Washburn is the longtime director in the late 20th century. Ioannis Miaoulis is the current director. The museum moves to its current site (second) in 1951.* The original building becomes home to Bonwit Teller in 1947, then to Louis Boston until 2010, and to Restoration Hardware in 2013.
