Mrs. Saunders’ and Miss Beach’s Academy opens.

[1804] Founded by Judith Foster Saunders and Clementina Beach, it is located in the former Pope House on Meeting House Hill. A private school for girls, it offers classes in languages, literature, music and needlework. The building is enlarged in 1817. The school moves to other locations beginning in 1822, but returns to Meeting House Hill in May 1825 and continues to operate until 1834 (1846).
